About the Foundation

Built from a pioneering open-source imaging project

The OsiriX Foundation was established in December 2008 following years of research and development around the OsiriX project, which began in 2004 in California and continued in Geneva. Its purpose is to support open, high-quality software for medicine and medical imaging.

Our story

OsiriX emerged as an open-source platform for advanced medical image processing at a time when high-end imaging software was dominated by commercial systems. Its international adoption showed that the medical community was ready for a new model based on sharing, transparency, and collaboration.

The Foundation was created to carry that momentum forward by supporting future projects, encouraging excellence in imaging technology, and helping researchers and healthcare professionals work together on practical software solutions.
